Porcelain inlay-onlay are fillings with superior aesthetics and durability prepared in the laboratory.
In teeth that require large fillings, we can apply porcelain inlay-onlay instead of composite or amalgam filling because it is both aesthetic and durable. Inlay-onlay fillings are preferred as they require less material loss in the tooth than porcelain crowns during the construction phase. Only the decay is cleaned, and the tooth is measured. Porcelain inlay fillings prepared in the laboratory are then attached to the teeth with special adhesives (adhesive systems).
Especially for teeth with large material loss, root canal treatment is applied first and if necessary, simple surgical corrections (gingivoplasty - gum manicure) are made on the gum and onlay (porcelain prepared in the laboratory) is made. In this way, the risk of breaking the tooth or filling is very low.
Inlays; similar to known fillings. It is applied in cases where the tissue loss on the chewing surface of the tooth is not very large and the protruding parts of the tooth, which we call "cusp", are not damaged by caries or fractures.
In Onlays; Tissue loss in the visible part of the tooth in the mouth is larger. At least one or more protruding parts are damaged.
